Federal Immigration Reform: Where We Are and What It Means

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Panelists will discuss the current effort to comprehensively reform the federal immigration system, and what it could mean for immigrants, their families, U.S. workers and the labor market. First, workshop participants will hear from a key national advocate on the issue, who will summarize where the politics of immigration stand today in Washington D.C., and where they’re likely headed in the near term. The other three panelists will address the substance and impact of reform in three main topic areas: (1) the importance of legalization and citizenship for unauthorized immigrants; (2) how current legislative proposals would impact workers and the labor market; and (3) the benefits of economic and social integration not only for immigrants but for the nation/states/cities. Panelists will address alternative strategies if the federal reform effort fails during this congressional term, and how participants can engage in federal and state reform efforts through research, analysis, and advocacy.
